IVF Support at DCNMC
What to expect when receiving Chinese medicine alongside IVF
IVF is a significant physical and emotional journey. It asks a lot of your body, your hormones, your time and your heart.
At DCNMC, our role is to support you through this process with steadiness, clarity and a deep understanding of how Chinese medicine can sit alongside your medical treatment. We don’t replace your IVF team, we work beside them, helping you feel more grounded, supported and connected to your body throughout each stage. We offer a calm, structured approach to IVF support.
Every IVF cycle has its own rhythm.
Your medications shift across the month.
Your hormones rise and fall in response.
Your nervous system carries the weight of hope, uncertainty and decision‑making. Our work is to understand these patterns and support your system through them. Your care is always individualised and guided by Chinese medicine diagnostics. Chinese medicine has a long history of working with reproductive health. In the context of IVF, we focus on:
• regulating stress physiology
• supporting sleep, digestion, and energy
• helping the body adapt to hormonal changes
• maintaining a sense of steadiness throughout the cycle
• supporting overall reproductive wellbeing
When to begin:
• before starting IVF (to prepare the body and stabilise underlying patterns)
during stimulation cycles
• between cycles
• during frozen embryo transfer preparation
• throughout early pregnancy
People come to us at different stages. There is no “right” time to begin.
We meet you wherever you are at.
What your first appointment looks like. Your initial consultation includes:
• a detailed health history
• cycle and symptom mapping
• Chinese medicine diagnosis
• discussion of your IVF timeline
• acupuncture treatment
• a clear plan for how we will support you across your cycle
Our goal is to help you understand what’s happening in your body and how we can support you through each stage of your IVF pathway.
How often you may come?
Frequency depends on your individual presentation and where you are in your IVF cycle, often 1-2 acupuncture sessions are required.
Common patterns include:
• weekly or fortnightly sessions during preparation phases
• more frequent sessions during stimulation or transfer weeks
• ongoing weekly support through early pregnancy
• monthly pregnancy support until a birth plan review is formulated
Your practitioner will guide you based on your symptoms, stress load, and diagnostic findings.
What we don’t do to remain AHPRA‑compliant and clinically responsible:
• we do not claim to improve IVF success rates
• we do not claim to influence egg quality, sperm quality, implantation or pregnancy outcomes
• we do not replace your fertility specialist’s medical advice
Our focus is on supporting your overall wellbeing, hormonal steadiness, and nervous system regulation throughout the IVF process.
For partners
Fertility is shared.
Partners are encouraged to attend for their own health optimisation

Acknowledging the research:
There is a substantial and growing body of research examining how acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and whole‑systems TCM may support people undergoing IVF.
Large analyses have explored acupuncture delivered before or during IVF cycles, with some studies suggesting potential improvements in clinical pregnancy rates when acupuncture is provided across multiple menstrual cycles leading up to oocyte retrieval .
Other research has examined whole‑systems TCM, combining acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and lifestyle support and found associations with higher odds of live birth compared with IVF alone, though authors emphasise that more rigorous trials are needed and results should be interpreted cautiously .
Case‑based and observational studies also describe how acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine may help regulate cycle patterns, support hormonal balance and improve overall reproductive wellbeing in complex fertility presentations . More recent real‑world data show that whole‑systems TCM can reduce stress, anxiety and pain during IVF cycles, factors known to influence overall wellbeing throughout treatment .
While findings vary and no complementary therapy can guarantee an outcome, this research reflects what many patients report: that integrating acupuncture or TCM alongside IVF can help them feel more supported, more regulated and more connected to their bodies during an emotionally and physically demanding process.
Future: IVF Support Package (coming soon)
We are currently developing a structured IVF support package that will include:
• a clear session pathway
• cycle‑specific support
• optional naturopathic integration
• resources to help you feel more prepared and informed
This will be linked here once finalised.
