Skin Health

When you're trying to understand what's happening with your skin

Maybe you've been dealing with acne for years.

Maybe your skin has become sensitive, reactive or unpredictable.

Perhaps you're experiencing rosacea, eczema or perioral dermatitis and feel like you've tried everything.

Maybe you've changed your skincare, adjusted your diet, taken supplements or invested in treatments, but you're still not sure why your skin is behaving the way it is.

Or perhaps you're interested in caring for your skin from both the inside and the outside.

Whatever has brought you here, welcome.

At Diamond Creek Natural Medicine Centre, we take the time to understand your skin alongside the bigger picture of your health.

Your skin does not exist in isolation.

Hormones, digestion, nutrition, stress, sleep, lifestyle and general wellbeing can all influence the way your skin behaves. Understanding these connections is often an important part of supporting long-term skin health.

Your skin is part of a bigger picture.

One of the most common things we hear is:

"I've tried everything, but my skin keeps flaring."

For some people, skin concerns are relatively straightforward.

For others, the picture is more complex.

Hormonal changes, digestion, nutrition, stress, immune function, environmental factors and lifestyle can all influence the appearance and behaviour of the skin.

This is one of the reasons we take a broader approach to skin health.

Rather than focusing only on the skin itself, we take the time to understand the factors that may be contributing to your individual presentation.

Our goal is not simply to help you manage your skin concerns today, but to better understand what may be influencing them in the first place.

Acne, rosacea, eczema & perioral dermatitis support

We regularly support patients experiencing:

Acne

Hormonal acne

Rosacea

Eczema

Perioral dermatitis

Sensitive and reactive skin

Dry or compromised skin

Perimenopausal and menopausal skin changes

Skin concerns associated with hormonal changes

Skin concerns associated with stress

Cosmetic skin health and healthy ageing

Whether your skin concern is new, persistent or something you've been managing for years, you don't need to know which approach is right before you come in.

Our role is to help guide you toward the type of support most appropriate for your circumstances.

Our approach to skin health

We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach.

During your consultation, we take the time to understand:

Your skin history

Previous treatments

Hormonal health

Digestive health

Nutrition

Sleep

Stress

Lifestyle factors

Relevant pathology and test results

Your goals and concerns

Using acupuncture, Chinese medicine, naturopathy and specialised skin therapies, we develop an individualised approach based on your presentation and what may be contributing to your symptoms.

Chinese medicine, Acupuncture & Naturopathy for skin health

At DCNMC, we often view skin concerns through a broader health lens.

From a Chinese medicine perspective, two people with the same diagnosis may present very differently.

For example, acne may be associated with patterns involving Damp Heat, Blood Heat, Liver Qi stagnation or digestive imbalance.

Similarly, rosacea, eczema and perioral dermatitis may present with different underlying patterns depending on the individual.

Understanding these patterns helps guide an individualised treatment approach that reflects your unique presentation, rather than assuming everybody with the same diagnosis requires the same treatment.

Naturopathy can also provide support through consideration of:

Nutritional status

Digestive health

Hormonal health

Lifestyle factors

Stress

Relevant pathology findings

Dr Clancy has a particular interest in the relationship between Chinese medicine and skin health, with additional training in Chinese medicine dermatology and cosmetic acupuncture.

More than fifteen years ago, she developed Chinadoll, her own Chinese herbal skincare range, combining her experience in both Chinese medicine and skin care.

This experience allows us to consider skin health through multiple lenses and build a treatment approach tailored to the individual..

Skin changes during perimenopause & menopause

Many women notice significant changes in their skin during perimenopause and menopause.

Skin may become:

Drier

More sensitive

Less resilient

More reactive

Prone to redness or irritation

Some women experience adult acne for the first time, while others notice changes in skin texture, elasticity, firmness or wound healing.

These changes often occur alongside other hormonal symptoms such as sleep disruption, mood changes, irregular cycles, hot flushes, brain fog or changes in energy.

At DCNMC, we consider skin health within the broader context of hormonal health.

Rather than focusing solely on the skin itself, we take the time to understand how hormonal changes, stress, nutrition, digestion and overall wellbeing may be contributing to your presentation.

For women navigating perimenopause or menopause, support may involve a combination of skin therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture and Chinese medicine, depending on your individual circumstances and goals.

Dermaviduals & corneotherapy

The health of the skin barrier plays an important role in many skin concerns.

Dr Clancy has undertaken additional training in corneotherapy, a specialised approach that focuses on supporting the structure and function of the skin barrier.

At DCNMC, Dermaviduals skincare is available through our trained skin therapist as part of this approach.

Rather than applying the same products to everybody, corneotherapy focuses on understanding what your individual skin needs and creating a tailored treatment plan to support it.

Your practitioner can create an individualised skincare program that may include professional treatments and home-care recommendations using Dermaviduals products.

MAX+ LED Light Therapy

MAX+ LED Light Therapy is now available as part of our Acupuncture and Naturopathy skin treatments. It can also be used as a stand alone treatment.

Your skin therapist will discuss whether LED is appropriate for you and how it can fit into your individual skin treatment plan.

Cosmetic acupuncture

Cosmetic acupuncture is a specialised approach to facial acupuncture that combines traditional Chinese medicine with a focus on facial skin health and appearance.

Very fine acupuncture needles are used on selected points of the face and body, with treatment tailored to your individual presentation.

At DCNMC, cosmetic acupuncture can be provided as part of your broader skin care, or as a treatment for those specifically interested in a natural approach to facial skin health and appearance.

Dr Clancy has undertaken additional training in cosmetic acupuncture as part of her broader interest in Chinese medicine dermatology and skin health.

Where should I start?

If you're not sure which approach is right for you, that's completely okay.

If your primary concern is your skin itself, particularly if you're interested in Dermaviduals, corneotherapy, professional skin treatments or LED therapy, our skin therapist is often an excellent place to begin.

If you're interested in exploring nutrition, digestion, hormonal health or other internal factors that may be relevant to your skin, a naturopathic consultation may be more appropriate.

If you're interested in acupuncture or exploring your skin through a Chinese medicine perspective, you may prefer to book with Dr Clancy or Dr Nicole.

And sometimes, the most appropriate approach is a combination of these.

If you're unsure, our complimentary 15-minute discovery call is a chance to discuss your concerns and determine where to start.

Frequently asked questions

Is LED Light Therapy suitable for everyone?

Most skin types and skin conditions can benefit from LED Light Therapy. Do I need to choose one treatment approach?

No. Depending on your needs and goals, skin therapy, naturopathy, acupuncture and Chinese medicine may be used individually or in combination. The DCNMC practitioner frequently collaborate for best outcomes.
